It’s easy to fix wardrobe woes with new pieces and play around with trends but what’s the secret to having your look tie together and look polished?

Think of accessories as the ‘icing on the cake’ - they not only complete your outfit, but they set the tone or the occasion of your outfit, reflect our personality and even help balance proportions and create shape or interest where we need it.

Lack of accessories is one of the most common reasons why my client feel ‘under dressed’ or lacking in style. So what should we be considering when adding accessories to our wardrobe?

Your best metal should try to be reflected not just in your jewellery but in your handbag hardware, zips and buttons on your garments and in your glasses. 

Consider the size of your accessories. I’m all for statement pieces, but day to day, think about your bone structure and your accessories to reflect this - for example, if you are petite, finer jewellery and smaller handbags will give you a better balance than anything too oversized, while if you are tall and/or have a bigger bone structure, dainty jewellery may feel a little lost on you. Layer your jewellery, wear a bold watch and a larger sized bag.

Talking bags, one bag doesn’t cut the mustard. For example, the handbag you would take to work will be quite different to what you would wear for a special occasion. A girl needs a roomy every day bag for work, a crossbody bag for weekending and a smaller statement bag for after 5pm.

Same thought applies when it comes to watches. Sports watches are great for day to day in a casual setting, but a metal watch is more polished, elegant and timeless.
